The only reason I was ever interested in art was to express my imagination. When I was young, I would draw to create characters and worlds which existed in my head. It was a tangible way to interact with thoughts and concepts. Daydreaming was fun but I desired something physical and directly experiential. It was not enough to simply create characters and personalities but to engage them in action or events. Comics thereby became the easiest way to convey a dynamic story, presenting various situations and challenges characters would have to face. The process of creating comics was physical and experiential in the sense that I could interact with drawings more tangibly than thoughts. Once the comics were done, it was nice to be able to read them again, though the process of creating them in the first place was the most enjoyable aspect of the whole thing.

Despite the success comics had as an expressive medium for my imagination, a gap remained between my mind and the physical expression. It was not until I learned of animation that this gap was shortened. With animation, what once existed as a single frame of a comic could be transformed into a lively scene. The illusion of life that animation conveyed fascinated me and was the most accurate art form that translated imagination to reality. Now, the limitations that existed were largely due to my own capability and artistic skill in drawing and animation rather than in the medium itself.

I have reached a point now, where I realize that the illusion of life in the form of animation pales in comparison to the grandeur of life in the everyday reality. Something as simple as a walk, which I can attempt to mimic with a handful of drawings, exists in an incredibly more complex form in the real world. As a result, my relationship with animation changed from an artistic end to a means of larger expression. This realization has shifted my attention and focus to the art of storytelling, specifically stories which have the same effect as folktales, myths and legends. These timeless stories, despite their often-perceived outward simplicity, have had a profound effect on numerous people and societies, evident in their antiquity and retelling.

To a large extent, my work is geared to combine all these influences into a single package. The creative possibilities animation possesses, fueled with drawings and presented as a cohesive story summarizes my interests and allows me to communicate and share my thoughts and imagination with other people.
